The baby showers are over and your little one is comfortably stocked with clothes for every season and enough toys to keep them entertained until they’re 3 years old. And while making sure baby is all ready for their arrival, ensuring that you are well taken care of after delivery is imperative!
While you’ve probably gone ahead and packed your hospital bag for those first couple of days in the hospital after baby arrives, don’t forget that having a proper postpartum kit for your home is absolutely key.
Seriously, ladies, do yourself a favor and make sure you’ve got plenty of these at home! You’ve probably heard about the bleeding that comes post-delivery and a normal pad won’t cut it. And if you have a great nurse at the hospital, ask her to throw some of the hospital grade ones into your bag. Trust us, those do the trick!
And because we like to keep things real around here, here’s a note from one of our mama friends about taking care of your lady parts if you have a vaginal delivery: Make yourself Postpartum Padsicles!! Take a giant maxi pad, add aloe vera, witch hazel and lavender essential oil. Wrap the whole thing in aluminum foil & put it in the freezer! Take them out when you’re ready to use and feel the immediate relief.
We know, it sounds crazy, but trust us, you won’t want to be rushing back to those sexy panties within days after giving birth. With the bleeding and the need for comfort, having some big panties that won’t need constant adjustment are a blessing!
If you really want to avoid the ugly granny panties, we’ve heard that the Fruit of the Loop hipsters also do the trick!
Postpartum hunger and thirst is a thing. And if you’re breastfeeding, it becomes an even bigger deal to ensure that you’re well nourished to produce enough milk supply! Be sure that you’re getting snacks with substance so that you’re getting the healthy nutrients you (and by extension, your little one) need.
In the first few days after delivery, between the stitches and the sore spots, you’ll want to make sure you have one of these bottles full of warm water in every bathroom (and maybe even one in your purse)! Every time you start to feel the pain, use the bottle to spray where needed.
We know, how embarrassing, right?! But, it’s NOT. Grab yourself a box of Colace and start taking them as soon as you can after baby arrives! And then, keep taking them for a couple of weeks. Believe us, you’ll be glad you did this!
While these are some of our favorite postpartum survival items, there are definitely a bunch more that might be perfect for YOU personally! We’d love to hear if you have holy grail products you can’t live without!By Myra Aslam @ Bliss Creative
