Relax & Reconnect, A Recap of our Adults Only Vacation Part 1

We all know it's important to take care of ourselves and moms rarely put themselves first but it's also important to put your relationship first.  As moms we look after our partners, our kids, the house, our office, feeding everyone, picking up after everyone... the list goes on.  Every once in a while we take a few minutes for a hot bath with a glass of wine or a mani/pedi with a friend, maybe dinner out with our girlfriends, but what we don't do as often is make sure to put time into our relationships.  Away from the children.  Even if it's just a date night, it's important to reconnect with your partner.

You're partners in this crazy ride, you might as well enjoy each other and share some fun times.  Remember what it was that made you want to be together in the first place.

My husband and I just got back from a week (5 days!) in Cancun, Mexico.  It was the first trip we've taken together without the boys since our youngest was born 22 months ago.  It was glorious!  Sure we missed our boys, but we also knew they were having a great time with both sets of grandparents.  I wanted to share with you a little about the resort we went to and why it's a great choice for a parents getaway.

We stayed at Le Blanc Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico.  It is an adult only, all-inclusive resort.  We've never done an all-inclusive and really liked it.  We didn't have to feel like we were nickel and diming ourselves as the week went on.  It was all covered!

We got there on Sunday and were welcomed with a fresh flute of coconut milk to enjoy while checking in.  After check in we went straight to the lobby bar to grab a drink and celebrate our freedom for the next 5 days.  All of the drinks were amazing.

We were then escorted to our room by the lobby butler but met at our room by the floor butler. Each floor has a designated butler to service all of your needs; food, drinks, fresh pillows, aroma therapy, hot baths.  I can't say enough good things about the floor butlers.  I got a warm lavender scented pillow the first night and it was amazing.

After settling in we changed into our bathing suits and headed down to the pool.  I'm more of a pool girl than a beach babe.  Sand gets everywhere... There is one infinity pool with a swim up bar, lounge chairs in shallow water along the edge of the pool on the main level and one more infinity pool without the bar on the upper level.  People are there to help you every time you look up, towels, food, drinks, sunscreen, whatever you need.

The first day we relaxed with a late breakfast out by the pool followed by hanging out in the infinity pool for a few hours.  It was a very stressful morning.

After a few hours of floating and swimming up to the bar for fresh pina coladas we joined a group for a catamaran tour and snorkeling off the coast of Isla Mujeres.  The catamaran tour was wonderful, with a full staff on the boat, full bar and a snack for the afternoon.  Everyone on the boat had a great time.

On day two we did the same late wake up call and breakfast outside at the pool.  But we also had scheduled a couples 80 minute massage for early afternoon.  The massage was a traditional Mayan 4 handed massage and it was incredible.  They told us to arrive an hour before our appointment to enjoy the spa facilities before the massage.  After being ushered back to the women's side the attendant gave me a locker for my shoes and hat and told me to keep my bathing suit on, we were going to the sauna.  Each person gets a robe and pair of Le Blanc slippers to wear while in the spa.  I did the sauna for 10 minutes, cool shower, steam room with face and hair cream for 10 minutes, a cool shower, hot tub for 10 minutes followed by the reflexology foot bath for 10 minutes.  After all of that I showered, donned my robe and slippers and made my way to the shared relaxation room where Jeff and I reconnected and shared hibiscus water and hot tea.  After about 5 minutes they called us back to our room where we met our 4 masseuses, yes, 4!  They performed a traditional Mayan cleansing of our aura and had us release any bad or negative feelings we had into the universe.  They then left for a minute while we disrobed and moved to the massage tables.  They came back in and proceeded to give us the best 4 handed massage either of us have ever had.  It was amazing!  Everything was symmetrical as they were massaging, never breaking contact as they moved from one area to another.  We oozed off the tables and back to the relaxation room for fresh tea and biscuits post massage.  It was an experience we will never forget and hopefully do again in the not too distant future.

Dinner that night was at the main restaurant with friends we'd met.  The food was great and the company was even better.  They told us about the most amazing experience the resort offered, but only a few weeks a year; hatching of sea turtles on the beach.  It happened to be one of the weeks.  We could see them hatch the next morning and help release them in the evening!  We were sold, the next morning would not be a late one, we were going to get up for the 7am baby sea turtle hatch!

Check back tomorrow for days 3-5 of our most amazing adult only vacation where Jeff and I took time to reconnect as partners, lovers and friends.
